Fire at Homeless Shelter Leaves 14 People Hurt in Morningside Heights

MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS -- Fourteen people were hurt early Friday morning after a fire broke out inside a homeless shelter in Morningside Heights, the FDNY said.

The building, at 2720 Broadway, near 105th Street, is a shelter owned by Volunteers for America.

An FDNY spokesman said the fire was on the ninth floor of the 18-story building. It started shortly after 6 a.m.

The cause of the fire was not immediately available
